OEM Honda S2000 Water Pump Assembly

$300.00

Description

The S2000 Water Pump should be replaced every 80,000 km (~50,000 miles). This assembly set contains all necessary items needed for a full water pump replacement with the casing and necessary bolts and seal; and of course, the water pump.

It is generally recommended to replace the water pump in a Honda S2000 after 80,000 km, or sooner if there are any signs of failure, as the water pump plays a crucial role in the cooling system of the engine. The water pump circulates coolant throughout the engine to remove heat, and if it fails, it can cause several problems such as:

  1. Overheating: If the water pump is not working properly, the engine will not be cooled effectively, leading to overheating and potential damage to the engine.
  2. Loss of coolant: A failing water pump can cause coolant to leak, which can lead to a reduction in coolant levels and potential engine damage.
  3. Reduced performance: A failing water pump can cause the engine to run at higher temperatures, which can reduce performance and fuel efficiency.
  4. Noise: A failing water pump can produce noise, which can be noticeable while driving, indicating a problem.
  5. Timing belt damage: Honda S2000’s water pumps are driven by the timing belt, a failure of the water pump can cause damage to the timing belt and the engine.
  6. It’s important to note that the water pump’s failure can be caused by a variety of issues, such as a worn or loose bearing, or a damaged impeller, and it’s not always easy to diagnose the problem. It’s best to have a professional mechanic check it out. Replacing the water pump can help to restore proper function to the car’s cooling system and prevent costly engine damage.

The S2000 was engineered wonderfully that the water pump replacement is fairly straight forward. Most times when replacing the water pump, a timing belt will be replaced as well; though the S2000 uses a timing chain instead and this chain does not need to be replaced.

Please follow these instructions for inspection of your water pump:

  1. Loosen the pump pulley bolts.

  2. Loosen the belt tensioner and take off the belt.

  3. Remove the pulley bolts from (1).

  4. Manually turn the pump shaft counterclockwise. It should turn freely.

  5. Check for seal leakage. A small amount of “weeping” is normal from the bleed hole.

    Replacement:

  6. Drain the engine coolant (open the drain plug at the bottom of the rad) till no more comes out.

  7. Remove 6 bolts that hold the pump onto the engine (5 small – 16 lb/ft and 1 big bolt – 33 lb/ft).

  8. Clean the mating surface on the engine block.

  9. Install new pump with new O-ring.

  10. Re-install pulley

  11. Re-install belt

  12. Torque down pulley bolts – 10 lb/ft.

  13. Fill coolant and bleed in the proper way
