The creation of our dry carbon Type R seat shells is a meticulous process that balances advanced engineering with a deep respect for NSX-R heritage. Every seat shell is built to capture the spirit of the original NSX-R by using a blend of modern materials, precise craftsmanship, and authentic design elements.
The process begins with the careful layering of five sheets of carbon fiber, each sheet contributing to the shell’s strength, durability, and signature look. The Kevlar layers add essential reinforcement to the structural stability. The outermost layer features an instantly recognizable pattern that complements the shell’s rigidity while adding visual depth and sophistication. These layers are expertly aligned and placed onto a custom mold that is crafted to mirror the exact shape and ergonomics of the NSX-R seat. This custom mold is a cornerstone in achieving the distinctive shape and structural integrity MITA Motorsports is known for.

Following the mold process, the layered shell undergoes a vacuum autoclave process. Over the course of half a day, the shell is subjected to controlled heat and pressure to bond each layer into a unified, solid structure. This phase eliminates any trapped air pockets, resulting in a lightweight, yet durable shell. After autoclaving, CNC machines precisely trim the edges to ensure that each shell conforms to the NSX-R’s exact ergonomic specifications, down to the smallest detail.
The next stage is polishing, which involves a full day dedicated to refining the shell’s surface. Our craftsmen start with rough sanding to remove any minor imperfections left from autoclaving. They later progress to finer sandpapers to achieve a flawless finish that highlights the intricate Kevlar weave and prepares the shell for its final paint application.

Painting is a multi-day process, with each coat of high-gloss paint meticulously applied and dried over two to three days. The glossy finish not only amplifies the depth of the carbon and Kevlar layers, but also protects the shell from the wear and tear associated with high-performance driving. This reflective, high-gloss coating brings a new dimension to the iconic Kevlar pattern, making it visible and striking from every angle.

Once painted, each shell is sent to Studio6Zero for upholstery. Here, precision-cut urethane padding is installed to meet the NSX-R’s ergonomic standards, providing a balance of support and comfort for the driver. The padding is then covered with the original NSX-R fabric, ensuring the seat shells remain true to their legacy in both look and feel. The fabric is carefully tailored to highlight the shell’s contours, bringing an elegant yet functional finish to the seat.

The end result is a dry carbon Type R seat shell that exemplifies MITA Motorsports’ dedication to quality, authenticity, and innovation.
